AMA Building Fund: Update VII
The Building Fund effort includes several time-critical elements. The Building Fund Drive must provide the start-up costs necessary to achieve a permanent home for model aviation. The money needed in 1982 must be raised in 1982. If you have been waiting to contribute, now is the time.
Time-sensitive recognition and items
- Pins and patches given to donors as recognition for Building Fund donations are available only through the end of 1982. These items are expected to become valued keepsakes and collectibles when they are no longer available. The special pins and patches will not be reordered.
- Presently at AMA Headquarters the inventory on hand is approximately:
- 826 Gold Brick pins
- 1,194 Member patches
- 1,811 Silver patches
- 228 Gold patches
- 500 Gold Brick pin-like charms
- The total inventory can produce $81,315 for the Building Project. That money is needed this year — not "in the long run."
- Any remaining stock will be destroyed after December 31, 1982.
Permanent recognition (good only through 1982)
Because of the time element, contributors who give during 1982 will receive permanent recognition in the new building's entry halls. These opportunities will not be available after the Building Fund Drive concludes at the end of 1982.
- Honor Wall (donations of $1,000 and up):
- Already has 28 plaques displayed.
- World Engines will also have a wall named for the company due to their donation.
- Charter Builders (donations of $500):
- Presently 32 plaques recognize Charter Builders.
- Contributing Members Honor Wall (donors of $100 and up):
- Already lists 68 names.
- Gold Members Scroll (donors of $50):
- 144 names are already listed.
At the close of 1982, no more names or plaques will be added to these recognition areas. So far, 27 out of the approximately 1,500 AMA clubs will be recognized in the building's main entry hall. These names will be seen by visitors for years to come.
Donations and contributions to AMA's Building Fund are tax deductible.
District progress and reporting
A frequent question is, "How is my AMA district doing?" A sampling of donations from AMA member renewals sent during the period from mid-November through the first week in January provides a preliminary district comparison (presented internally in chart form). While not a complete showing, the information serves as a rule of thumb; the trend follows population-density relationships.
Next month's article will add final renewal figures and the amounts generated by AMA VPs and AVPs who are holding Building Fund kits (which include pins and patches available at the local level), plus accumulated club donations. That will show a true district-by-district comparison.
Dedicated rooms and named spaces
- A room in the new building is dedicated in the name of Carl and Beth Goldberg for their contribution. The Competition Services Center in the new AMA headquarters will be named the Carl and Beth Goldberg Competition Services Center.
- A room is dedicated in the name of Wally Simmers of K & S Engineering. The exact room selection is not yet final and will be announced shortly.
