Charles H. Grant Scholarships — 1988
Charles Hampson Grant, a pioneer in full-scale and model aviation, is being honored by the Academy with the Charles H. Grant Scholarship Fund, established in 1987. The fund provides annual awards to deserving university‑age students in memory of C. H. Grant. The scholarship is administered by the AMA Scholarship Committee.

Eligibility and application:
- Applicant must be an AMA member.
- Applicant must have been active in model airplane activity during the past three years.
- Applicant must have graduated from high school in 1988 or 1989.
- Applicant must be enrolled in a college or university program.
- Application forms are available from Joyce Hager, Executive Coordinator, AMA Headquarters, 1810 Samuel Morse Drive, Reston, VA 22090.
- Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which submits recommendations to the AMA Executive Council for final selection.
Selection criteria:
- Academic achievement is important, but not the sole criterion.
- Preference is given to well‑rounded applicants who participate in community life, school activities, and modeling.
- All facets of the application are considered.
Recipients
Melinda L. Anderson — Mountaintop, PA
- Freshman at Michigan State University (East Lansing, MI); pursuing aeronautical engineering.
- Scholarship: $1,250 (mailed to the school).
- Modeling: Built and flew since age five. Specializes in Free Flight (1/2A, A, B, C, FAI Power) and has built AMA Scale, P‑30, Peanut, Mulvihill, Hand Launch, and Pennyplane models.

The following radio systems (transmitters/receivers) have been independently certified by a registered professional test laboratory retained by the manufacturer or U.S. importer/distributor as meeting or exceeding the Radio Control equipment specifications in the AMA Guidelines for operation on 20 kHz frequency spacing.
