Field Purchase & Leadership

This month I will complete the article from last month’s issue of Model Aviation regarding the field purchase by the Northern Connecticut Radio Control Club.

Bob LaFlamme is the president of the Northern Connecticut Radio Control Club, and it was primarily through his efforts and guidance that the club was able to purchase its own field.

Awards

Bob Wallace, the Associate Vice President for Connecticut, presented Bob LaFlamme with the Distinguished Service Award for his leadership.

An additional award was presented to Bob Wallace. He received a Fellowship Award from the Academy of Model Aeronautics for his many years of service to modelers. His work and dedication to the hobby are greatly appreciated.

Field Dedication — May 11, 2002

On May 11, 2002, the club held a formal field dedication to thank all the people involved with the purchase and financing of the field.

After the awards were presented, it was time for lunch. The club provided an outstanding picnic lunch along with two beautiful cakes. All enjoyed this, and it was a nice conclusion to the activities.

The weather that day was nearly perfect, although somewhat breezy. Adam Ludlow, 14, from Manchester, CT, made the inaugural flight.

Acknowledgements

I want to close by listing the people involved and by giving my personal thanks for their foresight and their ability to purchase their own club flying site. As far as I know, it is the only club-owned field in the district and one of the few in the country.
