THIS HAS BEEN a busy spring here in
the Northwest. Spring is our rainy season
but there has been no shortage of activities.
The Model Engine Collectors
Association (MECA) Swap Meet,
sponsored by McMinnville Aircraft
Modelers on March 10, featured a visit
from Noel Martin’s Miniature Aviation
Museum and Frank Macy’s American
Junior Classics.
This is also the home of the Evergreen
Aviation Museum and the home of the
Spruce Goose. Numerous outstanding
model aircraft were on display.
Monroe, Washington, was the site of
another great show I reported on last
month. If you missed it this year, I am glad
to let you know that John Fogelsong
recently told me he has already made plans
for next year at the same site but in a larger
building.
People are still talking about this event
and how much fun they had.
May 4-6 was the weekend of the famous
Apple Blossom Fly-in. The location was
Wenatchee, Washington and the host club
was the Red Apple Flyers.
This is one of the nicest fields in the
district. Plenty of good flying coupled with
the Apple Blossom parade and festival
make for a great weekend for the whole
family.
The following pictures from the event
are courtesy of the Red Apple Flyers.
Last—but not least by a long shot—is the
Volcano Fun Scale and Fun-Fly hosted by
the Yakima Valley Aero Modelers. The
event is held at Ben’s Strip in Zilla,
Washington, near Yakima.
This is another one of the must-do
events of spring. By the time you read this
of course, the events will be history for
this year but I would urge you to put them
on your schedule for next year.
Keep flying and keep smiling. Bruce.
