Fern Prairie Modelers — Scale Helicopter Fun-Fly
Jack Martin reports that the Fern Prairie Modelers held a Scale Helicopter fun-fly at the club field in Washougal, Washington, on July 20–21. The event promoted the scale helicopter aspect of modeling. Ten pilots registered, and despite rain the fly-in drew crowds of about 100 to 150 people each day.
Lake Sawyer Hawks — Delta Dart Builds at Kids Day
Dick Weaver reported that the Lake Sawyer Hawks had a great day helping kids and their parents build more than 250 Delta Darts. This was the club’s fourth year working at Kids Day at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley, Washington.
The build process:
- Kids glue the sticks onto the plan.
- An adult helper cuts the plan out with a razor blade.
- The pieces are brought to the final assembly table.
- Club members use an assembly fixture to glue the wings and elevator on, add a pin to hold the rubber-band motor, and mount the propeller.
In only a few minutes the models are built and ready to fly. With the use of assembly fixtures, the club has reduced the number of steps on the instruction sheet from 24 to eight, making the Delta Dart build faster and simpler.
Until next time. Bruce.
