I've thought about it a lot over the years, especially when the discussion swung around to a debate involving the relative positions of sport and competitive modeling. I suspect I first became aware of it almost 20 years ago when someone talked me into flying in my first RC Pattern contest. It didn't turn out well at all! At least two elements were missing that prevented my developing a winning combination: my equipment was below par, and I found that I really didn't know how to fly in a disciplined manner. (I am certain that a number of you may suggest that I haven't changed much!)
Following that contest I began to pay close attention to the average Saturday/Sunday flying sessions. Watching friends helping newcomers produced an interesting conclusion on my part.
