WRAM Show '88
WRAM SHOW '88 was again bigger and better than those of the past, and is probably the largest modeling show of its kind on the East Coast. This year's show was held at Yonkers Raceway, Yonkers, NY, where there was more than ample parking. However, the number attending on the first day (Saturday, February 27) made for wall-to-wall people, and it was almost impossible to get around to all 132 exhibitors. Sunday was also extremely well attended, but not quite the madhouse of the day before. At least there was room to move, breathe, and even get near the displays to see the wares and converse with the exhibitors.
In addition to the pleasure of seeing old modeling friends at this annual show, I try to find items in this strictly RC-oriented affair that might be of interest to CL Scale readers as well as to any general-interest or sport modelers who might, by some chance, read this column.
Loctite hobby and finishing products
An item seen at many exhibitors' tables was a group of adhesives, solvents, sealers, and epoxy finishing products by Loctite — a name familiar to many from automotive products. This new line is designed for hobby and craft activities.
The products are described in three brochures entitled Loctite Techniques, E-POX-E System, with pictures and drawings showing uses and applications:
- One brochure covers the Spray Adhesive and the 30-Minute E-POX-E System for foam wing sheet covering and lamination of doublers.
- Another details solvents and sealers: a Safety Solvent for cleaning engine parts and bearings, servo motors and gears; a decal and paint stripper; a threadlocker; an RTV high-temperature silicone for engine-part sealing; and a clear silicone for general watertight sealing.
- The third covers the E-POX-E Finishing Resin, Spot Putty, and Glaze for repair/filling of fiberglass surfaces. The Loctite fiberglass finishing resin is a one-to-one mix of resin and hardener, is nearly odorless, and offers a considerably longer working time (nearly 30 minutes) than many resin systems.

Scroll-saw table attachments
Most experienced modelers own a scroll-type saw from manufacturers like Dremel, Sears, or Wards. While these saws are great for scroll work, they don't lend themselves well to rip, miter, or top-and-miter operations, and they lack a sanding-table for precise side-sander work.
At the show I saw lucite saw-table attachments for both the main saw table and the side sander that allow these operations. For details and pricing write:

RC kits for CL conversion
One objective at the show is to spot RC model kits suitable for conversion to CL Scale. While many new RC kits were shown, few seemed suitable for CL conversion unless one wanted to try jet fighter types.
Dynaflite is now incorporating Marks Models, Craft Air, and Jemco products. They offer Sport Scale models in the 50- to 60-inch span range and the Marks Master Scale models. For a catalog and price sheet:

Hamilton Standard replica props
If you've looked in vain for a good replica of the Hamilton Standard propeller for static display on a Staggerwing or Mr. Mulligan, RAM Radio Controlled Models, Inc. offers cast-aluminum, highly polished blades intended for use as letter openers, trophies, plaques, or static model display props. Sizes range from 6 to 25 inches; prices range from about $12 for the smallest two-blade prop up to about $100 for the largest three-blade size.

Major Decals — expanded number and letter sizes
Major Decals has added number and letter decals to its line. Previously offered sizes started at 1 inch and went to 4-1/2 inches. New sizes now start at 1/4 inch and go to 9 inches in 1/2-inch increments, and are offered in all 10 colors as before. Major Decals also carries Hamilton Standard propeller decals suitable for the RAM props.
