District I Report - 2004/01

This month I will start with material sent by Harry Newman, the District I Associate Vice President (AVP) from New Hampshire.

Toys for Tots campaign

The first event was the annual Toys for Tots campaign to obtain contributions of toys and money to be donated to the Marines for distribution to area children. The Southern New Hampshire Flying Eagles R/C Club has sponsored this event for several years and it has been very successful. This year Harry presented an award from the AMA to the club for its efforts.

Concord Aero Guidance Society — Charlie MacLean Memorial Scale Fun-Fly

Harry also sent information about the Concord Aero Guidance Society’s annual Scale fun-fly. The two photos show some of the attendees at the annual event, now to be known as the Charlie MacLean Memorial Fun-Fly.

This is a daylong affair and usually draws participants from Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts. This year’s event was well attended with approximately 33 aircraft on hand. The event is held on the third Sunday in July.

State of Maine Scale Shoot Out

I attended the State of Maine Scale Shoot Out on August 2–3, 2003 and once again it was a super event. Most of the information will be provided in a future column, but there are three pictures that I would like to share with you because of the 100th anniversary of powered flight in December.

World War I Dawn Patrol and Scale Master Qualifier photos

I received a CD from Paul Gosselin containing many pictures of the World War I Dawn Patrol held at the Northern Connecticut Radio Control Club field in July and of the Scale Master Qualifier held at Gardiner, Massachusetts, during July. Unfortunately there were no captions included. I will supply the pictures; you supply your own captions. I will use the photos to fill my monthly columns. Below is the first.
