District V Report - 2003/03
This time of the year — November, December, and January — Florida comes alive. Balmy temperatures and everything green draw many flyers. Some have dual homes, one in the North where it is cold and one in Florida where it is warm and sunny.
There are so many fine clubs in Florida that it’s easy to choose one to feature. Two clubs in this issue are our District V Club of the Month winners.
Ridge Barnstormers (Lake Wales)
I spent the day with the Ridge Barnstormers of Lake Wales during the club’s Big Bird Fly-In at George Breen Field. John Greskowitz was Contest Director (CD). This 52-member club held a pleasant fun-fly; everyone had a good time and went home happy.
RC World Flyers (Orlando)
Our other Club of the Month is the RC World Flyers in Orlando. I attended and stayed all day at the club’s Fall Flying Festival XVIII. Allen Sorenson was the CD and Harry Lockwood is the club president. Flyers came from all over, and visitors numbered in the hundreds.
Spectators got their money’s worth watching the fantastically realistic models in the air. A huge variety of scale airplanes filled the flying field and the sky.
Both clubs are District V Club of the Month winners. AMA created cloth patches for club members to wear if they wish. The Lake Wales club received 60 patches, and 100 were mailed to the RC World Flyers to signify the clubs’ District V award.
