The Sunset Flyers RC Club had its flying field taken away last month; the City of St. Cloud, Florida, owns the land. Club member Bill Gacey wrote to Lynn Gordon, president of the RCACF club in Apopka, Florida, asking if he and his son could fly at the RCACF field until the Sunset Flyers could relocate. Lynn replied:
"On behalf of the RCACF, I invite you and your entire group of Sunset RC Flyers to join us at Tangerine Field until such time as your field is again available. We require all fliers to be AMA members and to follow our posted club rules.
Regards, Lynn Gordon, RCACF president."
On behalf of all the chartered clubs and fliers in District V, I commend Lynn Gordon for this unselfish gesture. I have heard of similar invitations extended by word of mouth; this is the first time I have seen such an invitation in writing. Such unselfishness needs to be rewarded.
Club Events and Visits
- RC Flyers of Venice held a large annual appreciation banquet at an exclusive country club in Englewood, Florida. Warren Mumma spoke briefly about club history, Jack Worrell spoke regarding ethics, and I spoke on AMA history. It was a superb evening.
- I attended the Rocket City RC Club's Big Spring Fly-In in Christmas, Florida. Rod Gier, Associate Vice President, was the CD. The club has a nice field and hosted a splendid fly-in. An uninvited guest—Mother Nature—arrived with winds of 15 to 20 mph at first, increasing to 30 mph by noon, forcing everyone to pack up. The Rocket City RC Club hosted the fun-fly and received a Club of the Month award.

- I attended the grand opening of the Manatee County RCers' new flying field. The City of Palmetto has leased the land; Mayor Lawrence Bustle attended the ceremony. County commissioners Amy Stein and Joe McClash were also present and each received an AMA District Service Award in tribute. I honored this Manatee County club with a Club of the Month award.
- I attended the annual Nature Coast RCers Warbird Fly-In at Inglis Locks, Florida — my third time there. The club has a large 700 x 25-foot grass runway. Every flier had a good time. The club was awarded a Club of the Month honor, which included a 2 x 3-foot flag and a cloth patch for everyone in the club.
