Message from the Vice President
Hello again! I hope you are starting to enjoy the springtime weather with your modeling friends.
I attended the annual Southeastern Model Show in Perry, Georgia, on March 4–5. Norm Deputy and the hardworking members of the Georgia Aircraft Modelers Association (GAMA) did their magic once again. This year the weather was almost too good. Many modelers from far and wide came to buy, sell, and trade. There was also a large number of vendors at the event. Well done, GAMA!
During the event I conducted our first annual Associate Vice Presidents’ (AVP) meeting. I am proud to report that many AVPs attended. Others in attendance included Dr. Sandy Frank and Bliss Teague (AMA EC members), Norm Rosenstock (AMA Historian), and Rich LaGrange (AMA Librarian).
I shared my vision for District V with those attending and am proud of the AVPs who have stepped up to work for you. I was able to answer questions from members at the meeting. It was a fun time and I am already looking forward to next year!
Middle Point RC Flyers Swap Meet — Report from AVP Dick Tonan
AVP Dick Tonan attended the Middle Point RC Flyers swap meet and sent this report:
"Clubs have various ways of generating operating funds and one common way is to conduct a swap meet. On February 19, the Middle Point RC Flyers held its version of a swap meet at the Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Army National Guard Armory.
"The driving force behind this event was the effort of club members Dan Fry, Matt McKnight, and Doug Hopper. Dan Fry and Matt McKnight are two of the Middle Point members who made the swap meet possible. This illustrates a small part of the morning's activity.
"An interesting aspect of this event was that the hours were from 8 a.m. until noon. This seemed to work out well as the vendors weren't required to sit around all day. As is typical, most sales occur early or late in the event; this schedule brought those two points closer together. A fixture at many swap meets in Middle Tennessee is 'Dr. Diesel' himself, Eric Clutton, with his pet bird.
"Based on my observations, the event seemed quite successful and I heard Matt McKnight comment that they need to find a bigger hall next year."
Till next time...
