Sugar Grove, Illinois

At the Treetown Modelaires annual Midwest Regional Championships, I had the privilege of presenting Glenn Lee with his plaque placing him in the Model Aviation Hall of Fame. Speed is his game, and his many records attest to that.

Wright City, Missouri

The Wright Flyers Model Airplane Club held its eighth annual Float Fly and static display at Innsbrook Resort and Conference Center. This event, hosted by the Boeing Phantom Flyers and the Wright Flyers, attracted 14 fliers from five St. Louis-area clubs.

A wide variety of models were flown, including a flying boat, float-equipped airplanes, and even a helicopter. A highlight of the day came when five airplanes were airborne at the same time; I'm told they all got back down safely.

Innsbrook, located approximately 50 miles west of St. Louis, has included this Float Fly as part of its Memorial Day weekend activities for eight years. Many local property owners and their families witnessed the event and cheered the pilots on as they demonstrated their flying skills.

Danville, Indiana

The Black Sheep RC Modelers Club participated in the town’s Fourth of July celebration by offering a display of models and a mini flying demonstration in the town park.

Twenty-four aircraft were displayed. The club members had two flight simulators present so kids of all ages could try their skills. Because of the size of the park, only a few Zagi flights and a helicopter demonstration were flown.

One of the outstanding models present was Raleigh Dobbins’ 1/3-scale Sopwith Pup.
