District VII Report
Website update
I have some good news for readers. The District VII website has two dedicated volunteers, Larry Pittman and Ed Kincer. They have improved the site to include a forum where members can:
- Ask questions about AMA-related topics
- Post questions about building
- Show pictures of their latest airplanes
- Use a for-sale department
The site is for the members to use; I hope more will take advantage of the hard work that has gone into these improvements.
Season and travel
As I write, fall is here and winter is fast approaching. I hope you all had a great flying season this past year and are getting ready for new projects in 2005. I managed to get in a few flights myself in between visiting events around the district, including the Grand Event and the EAA Convention in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It’s been a busy season.
Events attended
- Big Bird Fly-In — Aero R/C Club, Inc., Flint, Michigan: The club is expanding, having acquired additional property and putting up a pole barn for storage. The event was a two-day affair with approximately 65 registered pilots.
- UFO Air Show — United Flying Organization: The club’s field is located on Michigan Department of Natural Resources property leased by the club; it is a former landfill area. One unfortunate part of the lease is that the field is shut down for flying for a few weeks during hunting season.
- Mid America Electric Fly-In — Midwest RC field, just outside Northville, Michigan: Keith Shaw served as contest director for this all-electric fly-in. I’ve seen electric aircraft at local fields but not like the ones at this event; the technical advancements over a few short years are impressive. There were reportedly 90 pilots registered.
I’ve had a great season getting out with the membership and enjoying the events. Until next time — introduce a youngster to aeromodeling, fly smart, and fly safely.
