AMA Leader Members
The AMA Leader Member category has the responsibility of considering any AMA Bylaws changes or amendments. It is possible that during 2003–2004 this group of members will be asked to vote on formally updating the AMA bylaws.
To seek direct and personal feedback on this bylaws-adoption procedure, I am starting a formal information distribution list via e-mail. This list will not be a discussion group; it will provide ongoing information in a timely manner to all Leader Members.
Feedback to me personally will be solicited from each Leader Member who has an e-mail address on file with his or her AMA membership. Any Leader Member may voluntarily be removed from the distribution list. The list will be limited to Leader Members who reside within AMA District VIII (TX, NM, OK, AR, and LA). If you wish to establish Leader Member classification in the AMA, please contact AMA Headquarters in Muncie, Indiana, or download a Leader Member application from its Web site.
From the Brazoria County Modelers Association (Jim Whiteside, editor)
"Being friendly at the field.
Encourage visitors to take a closer look at what you’re flying. Invite them to tour the pit area and to meet the members. Most visitors are apprehensive about being at the field because they might feel like they are intruding.
It is the sight, sound, and excitement that drew them into watching us fly. Remember, any visitor may become a member.
When a new pilot is on the buddy box, consider postponing your flight until they finish. Allow fledgling pilots the opportunity to listen to their engine, to focus on their model, and to hear their instructor. Most of the time they will put in one flight and then sit out until the jitters subside.
We are involved in a people sport. People join our sport because they like being around others. They also love to talk about airplanes. They can see airplanes just about anywhere, but people join our club to be around like-minded persons."

Albuquerque (NM) Radio Control Club activities
These photographs are a compilation of activities sent by Scott Kuhns, club president, and Don Hopper of the Albuquerque Radio Control Club. This was one of many activities held by the club in 2002. They also held kids day events, mall shows, and static displays at the opening of new local hobby shops. Don and Scott want me to remind you that, though the population of New Mexico is sparse, there is a lot of modeling activity on the west side of AMA District VIII.
