"... a big thank you ..."
New Merchandise
AMA staff members attended the 1998 Weak Signals R/C Expo in Toledo, Ohio, and were pleased to display new merchandise being produced by AMA.
"A big thank you to all the members for stopping at the AMA booth and lending your positive support, suggestions, purchases, and response to our new merchandising products and the limited edition golf shirt," said Shirley Cook, head of merchandising products.
This first-time offering has special trim and colors available for a limited time only. The shirt style is subject to availability and will not be offered again after this offer expires. The eagle has been designated an AMA mascot and will appear on a variety of items, depicted in a variety of designs and activities.
We are open to suggestions and comments concerning product development and member requests. Contact Shirley Cook at AMA HQ. If your club is getting ready to purchase T-shirts, polo shirts, or hats, send your inquiry to AMA HQ and get a price quote. No order is too small. The income derived from this endeavor will be used to fund many AMA projects and help us become less dues-dependent.
Another great event took place at the AMA booth in Toledo. At the RCHTA (Radio Control Hobby Trade Association) board meeting, the organization passed a motion to donate $75,000 to AMA's education programs throughout a two-year period. The organization also donated $7,500 toward the Grand Event, which will be held at AMA HQ June 13–14.
AMA appreciates RCHTA's efforts in promoting the RC hobby. A big thank you to the Radio Control Hobby Trade Association for its continued support of the Academy's mission: "advancement of modeling activities."
Duties of Club Officers
I have been asked on many occasions by various club officers, "What are my duties?" The following job descriptions were developed by the Academy some time ago:
- President: Shall be the executive officer of the club and shall preside at all meetings. He shall be the spokesperson for the club. He shall appoint standing and special committees as he deems necessary. He will cast the deciding vote in any case where a tie vote is encountered.
- Vice-President: Shall assist the president in all matters and shall assume the duties of the president if for any reason the president is not able to perform his duties. Shall be responsible for the club meeting schedules and other club scheduled events which may be necessary or requested by the club officers or members.
- Secretary-Treasurer: Shall keep accurate minutes of all club meetings and a record of those in attendance. Responsible for maintaining a current list of all club members, to include name, mailing address, AMA number, and telephone number. Responsible for collection of dues, maintaining appropriate records of all club monetary transactions, and shall provide a treasurer's report at each scheduled club meeting. Authorized to pay any and all club obligations out of club funds. If the vice-president is unable to perform his duties, the secretary-treasurer shall assist or take over the duties of the vice-president as needed.
- Safety Officer–Field Marshal: Shall be responsible for the overall safety environment at the flying field. Has the responsibility and the authority to bar individuals, whether club members or not, from using or continuing to use the club flying field if they do not adhere to the AMA and club safety rules and procedures. Any person so barred from the use of the flying field may not fly from the club field until arrangements have been made with one or more of the club officers to correct the situation that caused him to be barred. The safety officer/field marshal must approve these arrangements before he may again use the field. If the secretary-treasurer is unable to perform his duties the safety officer/field marshal shall assist or take over the duties as needed.
AMA has also requested that each club designate one "Contact." In addition to the duties listed above, this person would receive all information (club charter kit, charter certificate, insurance certificates, etc.) and would be responsible for getting the information to the appropriate people. He or she should also be the one to contact Headquarters requesting information or follow-through on problems.
The above are suggested descriptions. Each club may have any variation but must have at least two adult members as officers.
Upcoming Special Events
Mark your calendar for the Grand Event at AMA HQ in June. A membership meeting will be held Saturday, June 13 at 4 p.m. in the big tent on site.
Attention District VII
After the demise of District VII Vice President Don Bentfield, the Executive Council (with Don's prior recommendation) named David Gish interim VP.
According to the bylaws, a special election will be held during the regularly scheduled ballot process. The Executive Council will select two nominees for his replacement, one of whom will be an active Associate Vice President. If someone in District VII would like to be considered for the Vice Presidency, please send your resumé by fax (765) 289-4248 or mail to AMA HQ, attention Mary Lou Vosjolsky, no later than June 5.
Happy flying,
