Focal Point

Gipsy Moth

Carl Mohs (5024 Lake Mendota Dr., Madison, WI 53705) built his 50-inch-span Gipsy Moth from September 1994 MA plans. Power is an O.S. 20 four-stroke. The four-channel radio has Hitec servos and an Airtronics transmitter.

The model is patterned after the aircraft used in the Robert Redford/Meryl Streep movie Out of Africa.

Proud of his Gee Bee

Dan Barnhart (Box 875579, Wasilla, AK 99687) built this Gee Bee R-2 from a Herr Engineering kit. "It took me 88 hours to complete a very nice kit," he wrote. "I entered it in the Alaska State Fair this fall and it took second place in the open class/kit division."

Dan is especially proud of the tissue trim: "It's not painted."

CAP 231

Bill Butters (111 Grotto Ct., Florissant, MO 63031) is shown with granddaughter Meagan. Bill designs, builds, and flies prototype R/C airplanes for Boeing Phantom Works in St. Louis.

The aircraft is an Aeropro CAP 231, powered by a G-62. Covering is MonoKote. Radio is by Futaba, with a TME smoke system.

Tribute to Paul Gilliam

Donald Chapton (25405 Hancock Ave. #213, Murrieta, CA 92562) shows his Civy Boy 61, which won third place in the Beauty event at the 1998 International Modeler Show in Pasadena, CA.

"It's dedicated to the memory of Paul, who was a close friend all of his modeling career."

The model was built from the original Kenhi kit and is covered in colored silk, using the same color scheme as Paul's original model.
