Letters to the Editor

Thank You, AMA

I would like to thank the staff at AMA Headquarters for their help in getting our new club chartered. It was pleasurable and quick—no hassle at all. In fact it turned out to be fun, and that's what our sport/hobby is all about.

AMA has caught a lot of flack lately and 99% of it is undeserved. Our sport/hobby would not be where it is today if not for AMA. I would like to introduce to all AMA members and AMA charter clubs our new club, charter #3300, the Moccasin Gap Modelers of Tallahassee, Florida. We are a mixed bunch of old and new members, and we are proud to be a loyal AMA club. Our newsletter will be called the Cotton Mouth Monthly, and we fly for fun and fellowship.

If you are ever in our area, please pay us a visit and partake of our flying field.

Thanks again to Headquarters staff.

Sonny Branch Route 7, Box 923 Tallahassee, FL 32308 (904) 893-6241

P.S. You have my permission to correct my spelling. The only thing that kept me out of college was high school. Also feel free to print my address and phone number. We would be happy to hear from or be paid a visit by AMA members as they pass through Tallahassee on vacation.

An Invitation to AMA Members

The very interesting article in the March 1992 issue of Model Aviation describing the museum at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, inspired me to gather three friends who were also interested and drive down last week to see it for ourselves.

It exceeded our expectations, and I recommend it to all who like aircraft. One in our group said that just the new building and its contents made the trip worthwhile. The rest was bonus. (From Durham, North Carolina, to Robins AFB—480 miles.) Yes, the new building described in your article as "proposed" is completed and was opened earlier this month.

Three very impressive planes in the new building are a Ryan, a Stearman, and an F-15 Eagle. The museum currently consists of about 90 aircraft and continues to grow.

The entire facility is beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable. Members of the staff with whom we spoke made us feel very welcome. They were eager to answer our questions and were very courteous. There is no charge for entry. They have two theaters; one is free, the other has a charge of $2.50 if one cares to attend.

While we were enjoying the displays and asking questions, a staff member asked what brought us to the museum. When I told him about the article in Model Aviation, he seemed very pleased. A while later, in another section of the same building, he came up to us accompanied by a woman whom he introduced as the museum director. He had conveyed my comments about the Model Aviation article to her, and she was very interested, asking more about it and about AMA. She asked that her invitation be extended to as many AMA members as possible to visit their facility.

Before we left, I went to the car and brought my March issue of Model Aviation back inside and left it with a member of her staff who said he would see that it was given to her.

I regret that I did not record the director's name, but I did get the staff member's name:
