This year’s Top Gun saw the return of Terry Nitsch as Mr. Top Gun and introduced a new ProAm class, which allowed competitors to bring aircraft that had exceeded the three-year rule or didn’t quite meet Top Gun standards.

Main Landing Gears (part 256)

Carl Goldberg Main Landing Gears (part 256) are lightweight, easy to mount, and extremely durable. Included are two 5/32 x 1-1/4-inch polished, nickel-hardened spring steel axles. The gears are fiberglass-filled reinforced so they can deflect and return to their original shape without losing form.

The Analyzer+ will test your four-, five-, six-, seven-, or eight-cell battery packs, giving accurate readings on the LCD displays. It operates on 12 VDC or 110 VAC and can discharge up to two packs at once with a selectable 250 or 500 mA drain rate.

If you use a Charge+ transmitter/receiver charger, a Sirius Charger, an ACE smart charger, or a similar charger, connecting your charger to the Analyzer+’s auxiliary port(s) will allow the Analyzer+ to automatically switch your packs over to the charger for recharging when they finish discharging. Brodak offers new ARF and ARC versions of the Cardinal. The ARF is available in different colors; the ARC version allows you to paint and finish the airplane to your preferences. Each type includes a four-inch bellcrank, adjustable leadouts, and an adjustable weight box. You must furnish the motor and the control lines.

Charm Sailplane

Charm is a new 100-inch RES model from Ukraine, designed by world and national record-holder Jerry Krainock specifically for American RES and Bent Wing competitions. The goal for Charm was to achieve a lift-to-drag ratio and sink rate comparable to available 3-meter models.

Ready-to-fly weight: 26–27 ounces (depending on equipment), giving a wing loading of just over 5 ounces per square foot. Using Mark Drela’s AG-24, AG-25, and AG-26 profiles, Charm offers a low sink rate and a flat glide. Precise landing is achieved with a large spoiler in the center of the three-piece wing. The unboltable stabilizer allows the model to break down into a small package for travel.

The vertical stabilizer/rudder is larger than many fliers expect, based on Jerry’s discus-launch-glider experience. The model is highly responsive yet stable. An electric-powered version should be available.
